I would always be sure to search the corporate site first. For example, if you are going to McDonalds, then go to their website and most likely you can sign up for their newsletter and receive a coupon of some sort. Most companies offer this type of inventive for signing up for their newsletter or liking them on facebook.
Another option for restaurant discounts is joining programs such as Hotels Etc which contains not only restaurant savings but all sorts of other discounts, coupons and promo codes that can be used to help you save your hard earn money.
