The history of America's largest home.
Building Biltmore Estate was, at the time, one of the largest undertakings in the history of American residential architecture and the results were astounding. Over a six-year period, an entire community of craftsmen worked to build the country's premier home. The estate boasted its own brick factory, woodworking shop, and a three mile spur for transporting materials to the site.

Biltmore Estate is an easy drive from most locations in the southeast. It's nestled in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina with major interstates nearby. Plan to arrive as early in the morning as possible. With so much to do on the estate every day, if you start bright and early, you should have enough time to visit Biltmore House, gardens, winery, and Historic Horse Barn.

Enjoy Christmas Inspired by the Vanderbilt's

George Vanderbilt introduced his new home to family and friends on Christmas Eve 1895 with a wonderful celebration that we continue today. Enjoy America's largest home decorated with dozens of Christmas trees, hundreds of wreaths, bows, and poinsettias, miles of evergreen garland, and thousands of ornaments. This year, the seven-story high Banquet Hall will appear as if the Vanderbilt family has prepared for the employee Christmas festivities. Tricycles, dolls, toy furniture, books, horns, trains, hoops and tops will hang from the massive, 34-foot Fraser Fir tree, with garlands of evergreens, mistletoe and shining holly dressing the Banquet Hall dining table.

Firelight and candlelight fill the house with a warm glow and accent delicate ornaments and priceless treasures, while the Front Lawn of Biltmore House sets the scene with a sparkling holiday illumination of evergreens bathed in thousands of twinkling light
